Manchester Urban Ageing Research Group (MUARG) – Public Seminar and Roundtable
About this Event

Join the Manchester Urban Ageing Research Group (MUARG) for a one-day event bringing together international scholars and practitioners to explore how ageing is shaped by inequality, marginalisation, and place. This event combines a public seminar in the morning with an interactive roundtable in the afternoon, welcoming attendees to participate in either or both sessions.

The morning seminar (9.30 am– 12.30 pm) will present cutting-edge international research on urban ageing in contexts of housing precarity, exclusion, and community action:

· Jarmin Yeh (US) – Ageing in single room occupancy hotels: Co-producing knowledge on urban ageing

· Atiya Mahmood (Canada) – Framing lived realities: Photovoice and digital storytelling with older adults experiencing housing precarity

· Christine Bailey-Catalán (Chile) – Critical Social Gerontology, Gender, and Territory: Advancing Interdisciplinary Research in Ageing in Valparaíso

Followed by:

· Laurent Reyes (US) – Civic participation from the margins: Sustaining community, shaping democracy

· Habib Chaudhury (Canada) – Dementia-inclusive streets and community engagement: From knowledge to action

· Ngaire Kerse (New Zealand) – Co-created ageing research centre: Development and application

The afternoon roundtable (1.30 pm to 3.00pm) will be an opportunity for smaller group discussions. We will discuss the different ways that research evidence can be mobilised to support age-friendly policy and practice. Roundtable participants will be encouraged to share examples from their research projects, policy involvement or lived experience.

This event is open to researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and community organisations. When registering, you can indicate whether you will attend the morning seminar, the afternoon roundtable, or both.

A light lunch and refreshments will be provided.
