Welcome to the 6th Annual Upstate Renaissance Faire Fencing Open, hosted by Sword Carolina. We are pleased to announce our new hosting location, Hollywild Animal Preserve.
This year we are re-introducing an old crowd favorite, Mixed Weapons Roulette! We will also have an Open Messer Tournament.
Both tournaments will be posted to HEMA Ratings. However, due to HEMA Ratings' rules, Mixed Weapons Roulette will not go against your overall score, but will be uploaded for the algorithm.
Day 1, Friday - Free Sparring & Demonstrations for the Crowd.
Day 2, Saturday - Mixed Weapons Roulette - This event is laid back and focused on entertaining the crowd. As well as trying different weapons combinations that you may not normally get to try. As long as it is safe to use, you can use it! Descendant Leather Brand weapons are a great option! Shields of any size and type are requested! Bring the obscure, the weird, the funky; WE WANT IT!
Weapons can and will include
- Pole Arms
- Longswords
- Single Hand Weapons
- Shields of all shapes and sizes
- Daggers
- Cloaks
- 🤷🏻♀️
Day 3, Sunday - Messer Open - this will be a normal, competitive tournament!
All tournaments will be capped at 30 fighters!
All fights are 2 minutes, continuous style matches. Three judges will use clickers to decide the winners of each match. Only wins count to your overall standings in the event. Points are only used to decide a winner. In the event of a tie, the match will go into "Sudden Death", where the first clean hit wins the match. The director will halt the fighting after a clean hit is called. More detailed rules and information to follow.
The Upstate Renaissance Faire is one of the largest, if not the largest, in South Carolina. After 4 years, we outgrew the small town of, Greer, in the upstate of South Carolina. Last year we outgrew the Spartanburg County Fairgrounds. This year is shaping up to be the biggest yet! There are a lot of great vendors and other fencing adjacent activities like the SCA, Palmetto Knights Bohurt Duels, Fell and Fair Larp (they also have a great tent with real Linen goodies!), The Laughing Falcon Scimitar Dancers, and much more!
All fighters will receive free entry into the faire. All guests will need to purchase tickets ahead of time, or, upon entry at the doors.
