We were recently informed that the originally scheduled meeting has been postponed to August 12. On August 8 at 6 PM at 5498 Sanders Drive, Bessemer, AL 35022 our allies the Alabama Rivers Alliance is hosting a community meeting to plan for the next public hearing. (See: https://www.facebook.com/events/798604449166388)On July 15, 2025, we had a major victory. Over 100 community members showed up to oppose data centers in Bessemer and the Cahaba Alliance for Conservation and Sustainability delivered over 100 signatures and emails calling for the City of Bessemer to VOTE NO on data centers. In response, the City Council of Bessemer postponed the vote, giving the community and our allies more time to organize.
The City Council is considering a zoning change to convert beloved forested land currently designated as A-1 Agricultural land into I-1 Light Industrial to make way for a massive data center, proposed by Logistics Land Investment, LLC. This project will bring increased energy demands, strain our water resources, and destroy green space that feeds our communities and supports our ecology.
