This beginner-stitcher friendly workshop is designed for anyone curious about using a needle and thread to express themselves creatively. Want to make a wall-hanging? Over-stitch on your favorite–but stained–pair of pants? Cover a meaningless logo with something much better? This class is for you.
Over 2 hours, we will learn the very basics of hand stitching, how to choose fabrics, the difference between fabric types (with an emphasis on woven vs. knit), mastering the running stitch and its cousin, seed stitch, how to start and finish sewing, and walk away with the confidence you need to further your skills in any direction you choose.
We will make abstract works on a provided fabric square in a pattern of your making, with the option to bring in your own item to work on. This is an excellent primer to launch you into the endless art of hand-sewing.
Materials provided, with the option to bring in your own nonstretch fabric or favorite scraps or threads, for work. We are aiming for a creative expression of color and texture, so no stitching areas where you don’t want to bring attention to (ie, inner leg pant areas).
Materials included:
Take home: Hoop, needle, thread, and fabric, resource list.
Available for class use: scissors, pinking shears, temporary fabric adhesive, pins, iron
Class size and cost:
5-6 seats available at $40
