A monthly creative writing workshop for global majority writers to unravel those untold stories.
About this Event

Unravel your untold stories in a safe, supportive space facilitated by local writer, Narimaan Shafi.

In this workshop we'll explore the personal narratives and histories that we carry with us, through creative writing exercises. Suitable for anyone with an interest in writing who identifies as global majority*. All levels of writing experience welcome.

*Global majority refers to people who are "black, Asian, brown, dual-heritage, indigenous to the global south, and or have been racialised as 'ethnic minorities'" and "represent approximately 80% of the world's population", according to educator and activist Rosemary Campbell-Stephens MBE, who coined the term.

About your facilitator

Narimaan is a local writer identifying as brown and northern. Once a science teacher and then an instructional designer, she is now writing and is passionate about giving people the opportunity to write the stories they carry with them or have handed down to them.

She won the Portico Rewriting the North Mentorship with Faber in 2022. Since then she has had a short story published in the anthology Tales from the Kitchen by Fox and Windmill. In 2024, she won the Off the Shelf Sheffield Short Story Competition.
