Workshop with Nurtane Karagil
Friday, 24 April 2026 from 18:30-20:30
For registrations: [email protected]
The workshop takes as its point of departure Nurtane Karagil’s installation “Unpacking the Inherited / A Participatory Installation on Myths and Rumours of Cyprus.” The installation invites visitors to share, through concise statements, keywords, phrases, or drawings, the myths, perceptions, transmitted rumours, and stories about Cyprus that they are familiar with or that come to mind spontaneously.
Cyprus, like many other social contexts, is shaped by a complex political history and thus lends itself to a multiplicity of narratives often contradictory, ambivalent, and shaped by perspective. Stories passed down through generations are continuously adapted to current socio-political developments, while much remains undefined, unspoken, and hidden.
The workshop is open to everyone. Participants are invited to engage with the notes and fragments collected throughout the exhibition, to expand them through their own experiences and reflections, and to further develop them.
Through collective exchange, personal and shared stories, narratives, rumours, and stereotypes related to Cyprus will be discussed. Participants will then create letters using text, drawing, and collage: To Whom It May Concern. Cyprus serves as a conceptual point of departure, but contributions may also take on a more universal or speculative perspective, imagining how we might want to live together in the future, what an ideal island could look like, and which values might shape it.
In the spirit of the exhibition title: let our imaginations and hopes unfold freely.
The contributions will be presented as part of the installation throughout the duration of the exhibition.
