About This Event
Ever wondered how the towering, shimmering spectacles of Mardi Gras evolved from simple wagons into the "rolling tableaux" we see today?
Join us for an afternoon of history and design as Wayne Dean presents a fascinating talk on the History and Form of the Carnival Float. We will explore the evolution of these mobile masterpieces—from their early 19th-century roots to the complex structures of the modern era.
The Experience
The Lecture: A brief talk and discussion led by Wayne Dean at the historic Cox-Deasey Cottage.
The Field Trip: Following the lecture, we will head over to the Order of Inca float barn for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour. See firsthand how 21st-century architecture and engineering bring these massive displays to life!
