✨What To Expect
Expect Unmasked Poetry Night to be a relaxed, informal and friendly event where you are encouraged to come as you are
🪑 Audience Members & Accesibilty
We’ve done our best to create a space that’s welcoming, neuroinclusive, comfortable, and accessible - especially for neurodivergent attendees. You’re free to enjoy the event in whatever way feels right for you.
Here’s what to expect:
- No flashing or harsh lighting
- Fidget toys available on tables (non-disruptive)
- Stimming is welcome
- A quiet space is available if you need a break — a host can escort you
- You’re welcome to leave quietly between performances
- We’ll have a scheduled break partway through the evening
- The event will run to time as much as possible
There’s no pressure to engage or interact — you're welcome just to sit back and take it all in.
♿ Accessibility Note
We want to be as inclusive as possible, but sadly, the event space is upstairs and there is no lift access. This means the venue is not wheelchair accessible.
🎤 Performers
- You’ll have up to 5 minutes to perform your piece.
- A microphone and adjustable stand will be set up for you.
- Feel free to read from your phone, a notebook, or perform from memory — whatever works for you.
- There’s no set theme — just bring your words, your voice, and whatever feels important to share.
⚠️ A Note on Sensitive Content
This is an open mic, so pieces may vary — from light-hearted or romantic to personal and intense. Some performances may explore difficult or emotional topics, including:
Grief, trauma, mental health, discrimination, abuse, violence, or identity-based experiences.
We’ll encourage performers to give a heads-up if their piece includes triggering content. If you need to step away at any point, you’re completely free to do so — no need to explain.
