Unlocking Creativity: Free Improvisation Techniques for the Music Classroom
This interactive session explores how free improvisation can unlock creativity, collaboration, and confidence in students of all levels. Beginning with a deep listening activity inspired by Pauline Oliveros, participants will engage in practical improvisational techniques such as group improvisation, guided listening, and creative prompts designed to foster spontaneous musical expression.
The session will highlight the approaches of influential artists like Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor and the European Free Improvisors, whose work embodies the spirit of free improvisation. Attendees will learn how to incorporate these techniques into their classrooms, creating a space where students can experiment, collaborate, and embrace their unique musical voices.
We will be recording this for the NAMM Presentation Mr. Carniaux will be doing in January 2025 in Anaheim.
