Unlearning: A Free-form Writing Workshop

We invite you to join writer Antonia Del Ens to experiment with free-form writing techniques to create passages, poems, excerpts, or stories that can (optionally) be featured in a collective publication.

Antonia invites you to bring an object relating to personal identity, familial connections, or anything you wish to explore more deeply through this writing technique. This could be an old Polaroid, perhaps a piece of jewelry with great sentiment, or an item of clothing—just to name a few examples. The idea is to use these physical objects, to which we assign memories, as an origin point for this alternative writing process.

This workshop is suitable for anyone, whether you are a writer currently facing a rut in your practice or a complete novice! The outcomes are not expected to be polished pieces by any means—in fact, the messier, the better!

The workshop will be split into two sessions with a break in between (please feel free to bring lunch; however, we ask that drinks and bar snacks be purchased from the bar).

The first session will focus on different prompts and materials to get those creative juices flowing, and Antonia will guide you through the free-form writing process.
The second part of the workshop will focus on bringing together all the elements created in the first session to create a final piece, which can be included in a collective publication in collaboration with the group (if you wish to share).

A note from Antonia: "This has been a method I’ve used for years as a way to overcome and find importance in personal struggles. That being said, these reimagined memories do not have to be sad. Often, recollecting things we shy away from can create something very beautiful."
