Come see the world's largest operating steam locomotive when Union Pacific's No. 4014 "Big Boy" makes a historic return visit to Union Station as part of a coast-to-coast tour celebrating America's 250th birthday.
Join us for up-close viewing and photo opportunities.
Viewing is free and open to the public during the times listed below. Please note that up-close public access to Big Boy is not available outside of these scheduled viewing hours.

Tuesday, July 21
From approximately 5:30 PM (following arrival) until 8:00 PM
Wednesday, July 22
9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE:
Big Boy will arrive at Union Station at approximately 5:30 PM on Tuesday, July 21, and depart at approximately 9:00 AM on Thursday, July 23.
The public is welcome to watch and photograph the arrival and departure from a safe distance. Up-close viewing is not available during arrival and departure.
Please note that arrival and departure times are approximate and are subject to change.

PARKING ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 22:
Pre-paid parking will be in effect in our West Yards Garage.
Parking will be a flat rate of $20, payable upon arrival by credit or debit card only.

After experiencing the legendary Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 at Union Station on Wednesday, July 22, keep the excitement rolling with a full day of hands-on train-themed fun inside Science City!
We'll have activities for curious engineers of all ages, including:
Build a Train with Printmaking
In Creative Corner, create your own train masterpiece using custom Science City stamps featuring train wheels, railcars, tracks, and more. Combine individual shapes to build one incredible locomotive!
Testing Track-tion
Which surface helps a train roll the fastest? Join Ms. Abby in the PNC Learning Lab to test tile, carpet, fabric, and more as you discover how traction affects toy trains.
Train-Inspired Coasters
In the Maker Studio, learn the art of block printing while designing and creating your own custom coaster to take home.
All Aboard
Explore Science City's permanent train-themed exhibit and interactive play space! Hop on our play steam locomotive, role-play in the sleeper and dining cars, transport goods and materials at Load It Up, create a toy train village at Build-A-Track, move freight at the Intermodal Table, and more! All Aboard also features one of the most elaborate model train layouts in the region, complete with a Kansas City landscape and the heart of downtown—including Union Station!
Train Day activities are included with Science City admission and free for members.
