Underwater photography exhibition in Nenagh

January display at the library ahead of national event

THE January exhibition at Nenagh Library is an intriguing collection of underwater photographs taken by divers.
The photographs feature a wide and captivating array of marine life pictured around Ireland and abroad. This collection was on display at last year's Diving Ireland Expo, the national scuba-diving and associated watersports annual convention, which was held at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin.
This year's Diving Ireland Expo will be held in Nenagh, hosted by the local Lough Derg Sub Aqua Club. The photography exhibition now on display in Nenagh Library serves to whet the appetite for the upcoming event. All are welcome to come and marvel at the images captured by the Diving Ireland underwater photography group, which was set up 15 years ago for Irish underwater photographers to share their expertise and encourage those new to taking underwater pictures. The group has grown to include many international photographers. Knowledge is shared for technical equipment, camera settings and, when requested, constructive critique of images taken. The travelling exhibition showcases the group's work and passion for documenting the underwater world.
Come and see the exhibition in Nenagh, free of charge, during library opening hours - Monday, 9.30am - 5.30pm; Tuesday, 9.30am - 8pm; Wednesday, 9.30 - 5.30pm; Thursday 9.30pm - 5.30pm; Friday, 9.30 - 1pm and 2 - 5pm and Saturday, 10am - 1pm and
2 - 5pm.

NENAGH EXPO

A new photography exhibition will form part of Diving Ireland Expo 2025, which will be held at the Abbey Court Hotel over the weekend of March 29-30. As well as being the annual convention for Diving Ireland - the national governing body for recreational underwater sports in Ireland - the expo features a trade show where those interested in scuba-diving, free-diving, snorkelling and similar watersports can avail of great deals on gear. They can also find out about the latest products on the market, as well as offerings from dive holiday providers.
A key feature of the weekend event is the series of talks on topics that will be of interest to a wide cross-section. Speakers confirmed for the Nenagh expo include Dr Simon Berrow of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, currently in the news over the appearance of a humpback whale in the Shannon Estuary. Also among the speakers is Michael Loftus, key player in the much-publicised sinking of the MV Shingle off Mayo last year, leading to the creation of Ireland's first artificial reef for divers to explore. A further talk will be given by popular Kilkee man Manuel Di Lucia, who last year - at the age of 83 - published a book on his life as pioneering diver, fisherman, lifeguard, restaurant operator and Marine Rescue Centre founder.
The expo also features a raffle with some fantastic prizes to be won - tickets are currently in circulation and can be obtained from Lough Derg SAC members.
