Brooklyn Hancock LMHC
Owner/Therapist
Brooklyn is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida with 7 years of experience. She graduated from the University of Florida with her bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Family, Youth, and Community Science. She continued her education at the University of Central Florida where she earned my Masters Degree in Counselor Education: Mental Health Track. Brooklyn is now the owner and lead therapist of Thriving Vines Counseling and Consulting. Brooklyn also serves on the Florida Board for Play Therapy.
Her Background
Brooklyn is a Registered Play Therapist as well an EMDR Certified Therapist and AutPlay Certified Therapist. While in graduate school, Brooklyn worked with children and teens diagnosed with Autism as a Registered Behavior Technician. Brooklyn has also worked in the public school system for 4 years prior to going into full time private practice. Being in the schools, she has a wide variety of experience with various issues and populations. Additionally, since the pandemic, she has gained experience working with adults via telehealth, in-person, and in private practice. Her strengths are working with parents and adults on parenting strategies, relationship building, communication, anxiety, depression, trauma, attachment related concerns, and self-esteem/self-worth. Her strengths with children are anxiety, separation anxiety, negative self-talk, confidence, social anxiety, ASD, and communication.
Sheryl Posey: Licensed School Psychologist
Ms. Sheryl Posey, S.S.P., is a public School Psychologist with 22 years of experience spanning two states and all levels of schooling, from Pre-K through high school. Whether through evaluation, parent education, coaching, or psychoeducational groups, her focus has always been strengths based and child centered.
Ms. Posey completed her graduate degree at Illinois State University in 2001, while working in a group home for children with significant mental health challenges. She has since celebrated with athletes at the Special Olympics and has attended the graduations of students who never believed they would walk across the stage. Ms. Posey has worked with children with varying levels of need, including significant medical or behavioral and emotional challenges, low incidence disabilities, ADHD, autism, and learning differences.
When a social emotional curriculum did not exist for children with intellectual disabilities, Ms. Posey used her knowledge of child development to create lessons specifically for the children in her school. She is a fierce advocate for inclusion and began a facilitated play program for students with special needs in her elementary school. Her patience, empathy, and caring nature help her connect with children and motivate them to do their best.
Ms. Posey's specialties include assessment for all educational needs including learning disabilities and giftedness. She has over 20 years experience with teaching social skills, including social thinking strategies for children with autism. Her interests include executive functioning strategies and interventions, and she recently created a parent education seminar to review strategies to assist children with executive functioning challenges. Her experience in the educational systems of both Florida and Illinois make her an exceptional advocate for children.
