In this presentation Wellington-based Menopause specialist nurse, personal trainer, clinician and author Lynda Lovatt asks "What if the conditions we associate with 'old age' actually begin decades earlier?" Through one woman’s story — from age 20 to 80 — this talk explores how hormones, muscle, bone health, pelvic floor changes, stress, lifestyle, pregnancy, menopause, and chronic disease risk shape a woman’s future health outcomes. This is not a talk about fear or perfection. It’s about understanding the female body earlier, recognising the warning signs sooner, and learning what women can do at every age to stay stronger, healthier, independent, and well for longer. This will be a powerful and practical conversation for women of all ages — and for anyone who cares for them.
Location: Ngā Pou Ruahine space (Level 2)
About the presenter/author:
Lynda Lovatt is a New Zealand Registered Nurse, Exercise and Pelvic Health Professional, and Lifestyle Medicine Practitioner. She is a successful businesswoman with a gift for creating outstanding exercise programmes for women to promote safe exercise during pregnancy, prepare them for birth and recover them afterwards. Her Postnatal Recovery Programme won Programme Excellence in 2017, and her Postnatal Recovery Programme for Personal Trainers was awarded finalist for the Innovation award in 2020. Both awards were received at the NZ Exercise Industry Awards. Lynda’s earlier nursing career was rich and diverse, and saw her looking after burn victims and disfigurement, cancer and chronic disease. After Lynda sold her fitness business, she had a strong desire to return to nursing to focus on women’s health aging from Menopause onwards. Driven to prevent the disease she had seen in New Zealand and British hospitals, Lynda started up her own Wellington Clinic. Her mission is to help women navigate menopause, keep healthy as they age and to provide assessment and treatment for incontinence and the genitourinary changes in Menopause.
Lynda’s superpower is her empathy for her patients and her drive to ease the conversation in taboo topics in women’s health to improve health outcomes. Increasingly, Lynda is being invited to speak at corporate events, webinars and women’s business groups on topics such as menopause, healthy aging and pelvic floor dysfunction from fifty years onwards.
Lynda is the author of: 'Lady Talk, A personal pursuit with practice pearls'. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing after the event.
