Tunisian crochet is a cross between knitting and crochet that results in a completely different texture to both. And this workshop is all about reading Tunisian Crochet charts, and doing the connecting stitch! You'll learn these things by working through the Canberra Cowl pattern by Abbey Made.In this workshop, you will learn to read Tunisian Crochet charts, by following the symbols used in the Canberra Cowl pattern.
We'll start by working on a small swatch. And then the class will cast on the Canberra Cowl. It is worked in the round with a cabled hook and the 'connecting stitch'.
The connecting stitch is a fundamental skill needed in many Abbey Made garment patterns. Master it in the Cowl and you’ll be able to tackle a jumper next!
To participate in this workshop, you will need to be able to confidently do the Tunisian Crochet foundation row and Tunisian simple stitch. If you join one of the Beginner Workshops on Saturday, 23 May, you will be able to join this class.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BRING
For this class you will need to bring:
5.5mm or 6mm Tunisian crochet hook, with a compatible cable that's 60cm long. Abbey Made recommends the KnitPro Tunisian Crochet hooks.
A small quantity of 8ply/DK weight yarn for your swatch. Please choose non-splitty yarn.
100g of yarn to make your Canberra Cowl. You can purchase yarn at Bombed Yarns if you wish!

ABOUT TUNISIAN CROCHET
Tunisian crochet is a type of crochet that mixes ideas from knitting and regular crochet. It uses a longer hook to hold many loops at once, then works them off in a second step. This makes a thicker, textured fabric that can look a bit like knitting. It’s great for making clothes, blankets, and other items.
Abbey says, "learning Tunisian Crochet is about layering one small skill on top of another small skill. Master the individual skills by repeating them over and over again, and hey presto, you've got yourself a garment to wear!"
