In yoga, the flow of prana (one’s energy) can be optimized through the intentional control of our breath and body. The Bandhas, Bandha meaing lock or harness, are groups of muscles and movements that when activated properly create a feeling of lift and lightness in your body as well as clarity in the mind. There are 6 Bandhas that can be activated within asana and/or pranayama practice. Within this workshop, we will discuss all 6 bandhas and explore in our body how to activate each. We will primarily focus on the 3 main bandhas–Mula, Uddiyana, and Jalandhara bandhas—using subtle awareness techniques to feel each one and then apply them to a few common yoga postures.Activating the Bandhas requires strength and awareness of the subtle physical body, including the pelvic floor muscles, deep core, diaphragm, foundation points (hands and feet) and more. This workshop requires laying on the floor and sitting upright, whether it be in a chair or preferably on the floor. We will move into some yoga postures including downward dog and extended mountain, but these postures are not required to attend.
