About this Event
Understanding Coercive Control: This level 2 course is aimed at people who are working directly with people affected by domestic abuse, who want to further develop their knowledge and understanding of how coercive control effects those who experience it, how to appropriately respond to and engage with individuals and families and understand how to identify risk in the context of Coercive Control.
The course covers the following;
Covered within this course is further exploration of the topics covered in level 1 and an introduction to additional topics. This includes;
- Prevalence of domestic abuse and the gender dynamic
- The impact that coercive control has on victims, including young people, parenting, people in later life and families and to be able to recognise the signs and indicators of Coercive Control.
- Stalking and harassment
- How to respond appropriately to victims
It is recommended if no previous training or professional experience of working with domestic abuse and sexual violence that you first attend our Level 1 course.
At the foundation of all DASV training is an understanding and awareness of controlling and coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship. Barnardo's Safer Futures recognise that people are affected by domestic abuse or sexual violence exist in all areas of society. We provide training for all professionals across all sectors.

This training is funded only for individuals who work and/or reside in Cornwall & Isles of Scilly, United Kingdom. If you are booking with an address outside of Cornwall, please contact us via email in advance to ensure your booking is not cancelled. Out of county bookings will be cancelled without warning. Participants are expected to have their camera on throughout the duration of the course. Visual cues play an important part in the facilitator being able to recognise how delegates are feeling and to monitor the wellbeing of the group. Keeping cameras on also encourages engagement and communication; This is an interactive course with activities throughout.
Laptop sharing between attendees within the same workplace is not permitted. Each person attending the training must be signed up individually and using their own device. We offer bespoke group training, please contact us if you feel this would best suit your organisation.
Cancellations can be made through your Eventbrite account, or via 'Manage my booking' on the original booking confirmation. Non-attendance and failure to cancel your booking will result in an email sent to your line manager with details of the missed session, and the commissioning team will be made aware of repeat non-attendance.
By booking a space on training, you understand that your booking information will be shared with Cornwall Council, commissioners, and funding providers as part of funding requirements.
