Understanding and Addressing Parental Resistance in Treatment
About this Event
The session will examine key factors that contribute to resistance—including fear, shame, cultural influences, and trauma—and connect these underlying drivers to specific caregiver responses that may impact treatment engagement. Using structured clinical frameworks, participants will analyze case vignettes to assess where resistance is emerging and why, strengthening their ability to respond with clarity and intention. Through discussion and applied practice, attendees will be introduced to evidence-informed engagement strategies designed to reduce defensiveness and build trust. Participants will practice reframing resistant behaviors in ways that support therapeutic alliance and foster more effective collaboration with caregivers. By the end of the session, participants will develop a brief, tailored engagement plan for a caregiver scenario and identify observable indicators that signal improved caregiver participation and treatment progress..
