About this Event
Understanding and Addressing Implicit Bias: A Journey Toward Awareness and Inclusion
Facilitated by: Maria Suarez (she/her), Community Teen Director with the YMCA of WNC
Event Description:
Join us for an engaging and interactive workshop designed to explore implicit bias and its effects on personal interactions, decision-making, and community relationships. This session offers a safe and supportive environment to reflect, learn, and take actionable steps toward fostering a more inclusive and equitable community.
Through guided activities, group discussions, and practical tools, participants will:
- Understand implicit and explicit bias and how they shape everyday interactions.
- Explore the role of societal systems in perpetuating bias.
- Develop strategies to recognize and challenge bias in their own lives.
This workshop is inspired by the Implicit Bias Workbook, created by Taquelia Washington, LCSW, and the Center for Innovation and Resources, Inc. (CIR), with activities adapted for a general audience. Whether you're new to this topic or ready to deepen your understanding, this workshop provides meaningful insights and practical steps for personal growth and community change.
