All three sessions will be held at 10 a.m. in the D.E. Room at the Main Library, 151 Library Drive, Houma. Participants are encouraged to bring their own phone, tablet, or laptop. No registration is required. The series is presented with support from the Center for an Informed Public.
What Is AI in Everyday Life?
Wednesday, October 14, at 10 a.m.
AI seems to be everywhere. This introductory session will explore where artificial intelligence is being used and how participants may already be interacting with it in their everyday lives. The discussion will also examine some of the potential benefits and challenges of AI.
Can AI Be an Expert?
Wednesday, October 21, at 10 a.m.
What kinds of questions are you asking Gemini, ChatGPT, or Copilot? What makes an AI tool an “expert,” and how can you tell whether its answers are reliable? This session will explore practical methods for evaluating AI-generated information and getting more trustworthy answers to your questions.
Synthetic Media and AI
Wednesday, October 28, at 10 a.m.
The AI landscape is changing rapidly, making it increasingly important to recognize manipulated and artificially generated content. In this interactive session, participants will learn about synthetic media, the difference between “cheap fakes” and deepfakes, and how reverse image search tools can help them stay vigilant.
Participants are welcome to attend one session or all three. Each class is designed to provide practical information and skills that can be used in everyday life.
