DescriptionThis workshop on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for professionals working with system-involved clients provides a comprehensive and tailored approach to address the unique challenges and needs of this client population. Participants will gain a deep understanding of ACT's core principles and learn how to adapt its techniques to navigate systemic constraints and trauma experienced by system-involved clients. The course emphasizes the importance of building strong therapeutic relationships within a systemic context, promoting psychological flexibility, and helping clients identify and pursue values-driven goals despite the challenges they face. Professionals will also receive guidance on self-care and ethical considerations, ensuring that they can effectively support their clients while maintaining their own well-being. The material will be delivered by PowerPoint presentation, short video clips, group discussion, breakout (small group) discussions and participant workbook (handout).Transfer of Learning 1Participants can apply their acquired knowledge and skills by incorporating ACT techniques into their therapy sessions with system-involved clients. They can use acceptance strategies and values-based goal setting to help clients navigate the challenges of the system, promoting psychological flexibility and improved well-being.Transfer of Learning 2By practicing self-compassion and using mindfulness as a tool for personal well-being, participants can maintain their own mental health, ensuring they are better equipped to support their clients over the long term.Learning Objectives1.) Identify and Distinguish Core ACT Principles: Participants will be able to differentiate and explain the six core processes of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), demonstrating their understanding of how each process contributes to psychological flexibility. 2.) Apply ACT Techniques to System-Involved Clients: Trainees will learn to adapt ACT interventions to address the specific challenges faced by system-involved clients, acceptance, and values clarification strategies within a systemic context. 3.) Evaluate Client Values and Set Goals: Participants will acquire the skill to assess client values, specify meaningful goals aligned with those values, and measure progress toward these goals over the course of therapy. 4.) Professionals will be able to integrate self-care practices and mindfulness techniques into their daily routines to prevent burnout and compassion fatigue.
