Under the Sea Sculpture Pottery Workshop

Hello, my name is Helen McCormick and I’m a local artist and qualified art teacher. I’ve been creating with clay for over 30 years, and I still absolutely love the process. I’m passionate about teaching and have created this workshop to share my skills, knowledge and experience.

My Under the Sea workshop is designed to be a relaxed, friendly space where you can meet new people, create, learn and have fun. Throughout the day, I’ll guide you through traditional hand-building skills and techniques to create a beautiful sea-inspired sculpture. You’ll learn how to form pinch pots, add surface textures and sculpt marine details, as well as experiment with colour to bring your piece to life.

All materials and equipment are provided. Tea and coffee will be available throughout the day, just bring a packed lunch and an apron (or wear old clothes). If you can trim your nails beforehand, that will help when working with soft clay.

After the workshop, I’ll carefully take your finished piece home to fire in my kiln. Each sculpture will be glazed with a transparent stoneware glaze, making it beautifully durable and waterproof. Your sculpture will be ready to collect approximately 6 weeks after the workshop — I’ll be in touch with a collection date once it’s fired.

NB: I am happy to store your work for 6 months from the collection date, after which it will be donated to charity.

There is FREE parking at the Walronds. The carpark is located at the back of the building. To access the carpark you will need to turn up Tiverton Road off the High Street, and then turn left just before the fire station onto Shortlands Lane. It is a narrow lane and easily missed. Drive a few yards up the lane and you will see the sign for the carpark on the left. Turn left and follow the drive through the gate ahead.
