UNDER THE CRT GLOW:
The Lab at ILA presents a one-of-a-kind installation experience that combines visuals, sound and performance to explore the intangible relationship between CRT television, movement, and the human EYE.
Under the CRT Glow asks questions of light and visual perception. As our eyes transform single beams of electrons into fluid motion, we will explore how human limitations are an essential component of this impactful illusion.
Featuring a venue-wide collaborative installation by Capital Waste (with support from 4TH Floor Elevator, and Rusted Chroma), alongside live performances from ∈Y∋ [Japan], TARP, Kinetik Collective, and Michael Ellingford.
Unique to The Lab at ILA.

----------------------------------
∈Y∋:
∈Y∋ is a Japanese vocalist, musician, and visual artist whose creative output across 40 years defies all definition. Notorious for his vast, confusing discography and countless guest appearances it is hard to overstate the seminal nature of his work, the breadth of his collaborations, and his completely uncompromising creative attitude.
Best known as co-founder of 90s noise group Boredoms, ∈Y∋ is perhaps most infamous for pioneering ‘Danger Music’ in the early 80s with his group Hanatarash. Known for their wild and controversial performances, this period saw ∈Y∋ drive an excavator through a live house mid set and nearly sever his own leg with a chainsaw…. Among many other acts of sonic warfare that have since become legendary.
Refusing to be categorized, ∈Y∋ has worked across almost every genre since. From experimental jazz with John Zorn, touring with Nirvana, recording with Sonic Youth, collaborating with members of doom metal group Corrupted, and many many more.
In later years ∈Y∋ has focused on experimental sound, sonic art, and increasingly the past decade – high BPM experimental club sets. He is a sonic explorer on the fringes of art and music, yet his work continues to be deeply personal and its influence…. inescapable.
Appearing in Australia as part of the ABSORBED line up (Naarm), this is ∈Y∋’s only side-show. The Lab at ILA are beyond excited to showcase a true visionary in a unique installation experience. Not to be missed! Only at The Lab.

Creative visualist. Glitch king and e-waste architect. With additional support from 4th Floor Elevator and Rusted Chroma, Capital Waste will be driving and directing visuals across the night across an interconnected chain of CRT television screens.
----------------------------------
MICHAEL ELLINGFORD:
Sound artist Michael Ellingford returns to The Lab for a special performance debuting his exploration of monophonic synthesis and drone. Known for his often meditative yet harsh soundscapes, audiences can expect a mix of noise and deep texture amid the transformative power of SOUND.
