Under Our Sukkah: People of the American Songbook

Starlight Duo celebrates American Jewish songwriters with Broadway and Hollywood favorites in “People of the American Songbook.”
About this Event

Irving Berlin . . . George and Ira Gershwin . . . Yip Harburg and Harold Arlen . . . these and a host of other American Jews wrote Broadway and Hollywood jazz songs that have persisted in popularity for decades. They will be the "ushpizin," the holy guests, whom the Starlight Duo will invite into the New Paltz Congregation's sukkah on September 30th by presenting a musical concert, "People of the American Songbook." Each song will be introduced with a short narrative that reveals the depth and breadth of American Jewish musical creativity.
The Starlight Duo (Lawrence Bush on guitars and vocals, Susan Griss on electric bass) has played original music as well as creative interpretations of popular songs at venues throughout the Hudson Valley. The Borscht Belt Museum in Ellenville describes them as "sweeping us away with elegant interpretations of classics from the American Songbook . . . a wonderful holiday event!”
