Spain is home to more old vines than any other country, with vast plantings exceeding 35 years of age. In this edition of our Uncover the Terroir Series, we spotlight three premium estates working with vines of 50 years and beyond, where age translates into depth, concentration and quiet authority.
This tasting explores how vine age shape’s structure, ageing potential and terroir expression across three iconic regions — the classical balance of Rioja, the elevated plateau of Ribera del Duero, and the rugged slate slopes of Priora.

Featured Wines:

1. Finca Tobella “Ancients” 2020 – From 70-year-old Garnacha and Cariñena vines. Mineral, focused and structured, with layered dark fruit and tension drawn from Priorat’s slate soils.
2. Finca Villacreces “Specimen No.2” – Sourced from estate vines over 50 years old. A refined Ribera del Duero cuvée blending three top vintages (42% 2015, 29% 2016, 29% 2017), delivering depth and polish.
3. Luis Cañas “Hiru 3 Racimos” 2017 – From 60-year-old Tempranillo vines in Rioja. Ripe black fruit, savoury nuance and controlled power with impressive ageing capacity.
   

Each tasting includes a 40ml pour of every featured wine.
