Unbroken is a deeply personal portrait series dedicated to parents and individuals who have lost a loved one—especially a child—to overdose. It’s inspired by my own journey of healing after losing my son, Gavyn, in 2020—just two weeks after his 17th birthday to an accidental overdose. This project is my way of honoring his memory and creating something meaningful out of the most unimaginable pain.

Photography has become a lifeline for me, a way to heal and process this grief. It’s a journey I only began to take seriously after Gavyn passed. Some of my most cherished memories are of us with a camera in hand, capturing the world together. Picking up a camera again felt like reconnecting with him and finding purpose in the pain.
While I’ve spent years as a storyteller, sharing narratives through community work and advocacy, this is my first project dedicated solely to parents and individuals who have walked this same path. I’m honored to create a space for us to come together, share our stories, and remind each other that even in the darkest moments, we remain Unbroken.
Through intimate portraits and heartfelt conversations, I want to amplify the voices of those who continue forward despite their loss. Hearing the stories of other parents who have faced the unthinkable gives me hope—and I want this project to offer that same hope to others.
