About this Event
Transformers are a critical part of every building’s electrical infrastructure — and they operate continuously, even when the lights are off. This training explores how aging and standard-efficiency dry-type transformers create parasitic losses that increase both energy consumption and peak demand.
The training will be held at the Hawai‘i Energy Training Room (45 N. King St. Suite #500, Honolulu HI 96817). The training will be also offered remotely via Microsoft Teams. LUNCH and parking will be provided.
We’ll examine how ultra-low loss transformers exceed DOE 2016 standards, reduce no-load losses by 80%+ (pre-2007 units), and deliver permanent, verifiable kW and kWh savings. The session also covers measurement & verification (M&V), rebate opportunities, and retrofit best practices.
Who Should Attend?
- Facility managers and building owners
- Energy managers and sustainability professionals
- Electrical engineers and consultants
- ESCOs and performance contractors
- Anyone involved in commercial energy efficiency upgrades
What You'll Learn
- Why parasitic losses like transformers represent 1–5% of total building energy use
- How DOE 2007 and DOE 2016 standards changed transformer efficiency
- Why real-world transformer loading is often far below design assumptions
- How ultra-low loss transformers reduce core losses and peak demand
- Typical ROI and incentive opportunities
- Measurement & verification best practices for documenting savings
- How transformer retrofits compare to lighting upgrades in impact
