A little more info and history about the process: A Ukrainian egg, or pysanka (plural: pysanky), is a beautifully decorated Easter egg made using a traditional wax-resist method similar to batik, where designs are "written" onto the raw eggshell with beeswax using a tool called a kistka. The egg is then dyed in stages, from lightest to darkest color, with the wax protecting the covered areas; finally, the wax is removed to reveal intricate, symbolic patterns representing new life, nature, and faith.
