Ukrainian Cooking Class — Syrnyky
About this Event
Join us for an unforgettable evening at the cozy Caputo's Market & Deli in Salt Lake City, where Ukrainian culture comes alive through food, wine, and warm company.
What are Syrnyky?
Syrnyky — pronounced seer-nih-kih — are Ukraine's beloved cottage cheese medallions, often described as the Ukrainian answer to cheesecake. Golden and crisp on the outside, pillowy and rich on the inside, these iconic little fritters have graced Ukrainian family tables for generations. Packed with protein and endlessly versatile, syrnyky can be dressed up in countless delicious ways: a dollop of cool sour cream, a spoonful of berry jam, a drizzle of golden honey or silky caramel syrup, or even an unexpected — and absolutely divine — combination of pesto sauce and jam. Once you try them, you will understand why Ukrainians are so passionate about this dish.
What to Expect
In a cozy, welcoming atmosphere with wine flowing and Ukrainian music setting the mood, our cooking instructor will guide you step by step through the art of making syrnyky from scratch. Whether you are an experienced home cook or someone who has never made anything more ambitious than scrambled eggs, this class is designed to be fun, approachable, and deeply satisfying. You will leave with a new skill, a full stomach, and a genuine taste of Ukrainian culinary tradition.
What We Are Raising Money For
This evening is more than great food — it is a meaningful act of solidarity. All proceeds from the class benefit Cars for Ukraine (car4ukraine.com), a grassroots volunteer initiative that sources, refurbishes, and delivers cars and trucks directly to Ukrainian warriors on the front lines. Since 2022, Cars for Ukraine has deployed over 911 vehicles worth more than €8.2 million. Every unit defending Ukraine — no matter where they serve — shares one universal need: a reliable vehicle. These are not luxuries. They are lifelines.
The fundraiser is organized by Utah For Ukraine, a Utah-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has taken nine trips to Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion, delivering supplies to medical stabilization points near the front, computers and learning materials to displaced children, and cash assistance to civilian relief groups across the country.
Come hungry. Come curious. Come with an open heart.
