Uke Can Do it! Ukulele Workshop aimed at the Early Years Sector

Ukulele workshop, empowering you to deliver music to your Early Years Setting.

Gain a basic grasp of the ukulele, and how the instrument can be used to enhance nursery rhymes.

We can forward you onto other resources, groups and can answer any questions about music.

10 spaces, 10 ukuleles provided - but you can bring your own if you have one. We can advise you on purchasing a ukulele at a low cost.

The workshop is completely free, and lots of fun!

Delivered by Jobe Sullivan, Sounds of Play Champion, who has 10 years experience in musical pedagogy. A multi-instrumentalist and passionate teacher, as well as a composer, arranger, founder of 'Treble Tots', a programme for the Early Years sector. Assisted by Somayeh Abkar, a celebrated musician hailing for Iran with a love of Early Years music.

• This workshop is aimed at people working in the early years in Birmingham - e.g. Nursery Staff, Stay and Play group leaders, Language through Play workers.
• Aimed at complete beginners, or people who have been wondering how they can apply their musical talents to their working practice.

About Sounds of Play

Sounds of Play Project is a workforce development project led by The Springfield Project, a leading partner of Birmingham Forward Steps (BFS). The project is built upon the partnership of 18 early years and music organisations in the city who together make up the Birmingham Early Years Music Consortium (BEYMC). In 2019, the Consortium was thrilled to be awarded a grant from Youth Music to deliver the Sounds of Play project which ended in March 2022. This project brought the Early Years and Music workforces together to learn from each other, to develop high quality Early Years Music practice across the city and to deliver music activities to children under 5 and their families. In 2023, Youth Music awarded a further £150,000 to BFS to continue to develop early years music practice and provision across Birmingham and build on the established relationships formed between the partner organisations.
