A small group meeting to discuss various IPv6 topics and future events of the UK IPv6 Council.About this Event
13:00 - 13:30 Arrivals, tea & coffee
We aim to discuss three topics in this roundtable.
13:30 - 15:00 Session 1
- IPv6-only in the CERN Experiments - CERN’s High Energy Physics (HEPiX) IPv6 Working Group is working on migrating CERN's dual-stack compute, storage, and network links towards IPv6-only, removing IPv4 wherever possible. We’ll discuss the issues and challenges in this task.
- IPv6 Enterprise Security Recommendations - IPv6 is present and invariably enabled by default in all common host and router platforms, so IPv6 traffic is present in all enterprise/campus host networks by default. In this topic, we will consider appropriate recommendations for deploying IPv6 securely in such environments, in contrast to the far-too-commonly seen advice to “turn off IPv6”.
15:00 - 15:30 Tea & Coffee
15:30 - 17:00 Session 2
- IPv6 Enterprise Security Recommendations - Continue this discussion.
- IPv6 Teaching in Universities - Many thousands of computer science students graduate from the 160 or so UK universities every year, yet the available evidence suggests that IPv6 features in the syllabus of very few of them, and a similarly small percentage have IPv6 deployed on their campuses. We’ll discuss what we might seek to do to help change that, to encourage uptake, and deployment at the very least in computer science labs.
NOTE: This event will not be recorded.
