UCF: What the Water Told Me by Oleksandra Zborovska

Join us for What the Water Told Me, a photography exhibition by Oleksandra Zborovska, documenting the aftermath of the Kakhovka HPP destruction in her hometown of Zaporizhzhia. Using black-and-white film, color film soaked in Dnipro River water, and cyanotypes, Zborovska allows nature itself to leave its imprint on the images, creating a dialogue between memory, environment, and the human experience.

The project captures the dramatic transformation of the riverbanks, with dried shorelines, stranded boats, and dying ecosystems, while reflecting on the landscapes of the artist’s childhood. By merging documentary precision with experimental photographic processes, the exhibition presents both a personal and ecological perspective on the ongoing impact of war in southeastern Ukraine.

This open-ended series invites viewers to contemplate resilience, change, and the enduring imprint of memory on both land and life. The exhibition is a unique opportunity to experience an intimate encounter with nature, history, and art, as the river itself becomes a co-creator of these hauntingly beautiful images.
