About this Event
Take a step back from your phone and try making a written piece with its analog predecessor. Come by to learn and try out all different models and generations of typewriters. Bryan Kravitz, founder and co-owner of Philly Typewriter, will kick off the event at 12:30 with a short talk about typewriters.
After the discussion, you’ll be welcomed to choose your own adventure. Led by Kathryn Carse and Michael Ardito, there will be multiple typewriters set out with various analog writing experiences to take part in. Trade the silence of you phone's keypad for the analog clickety-clack of a manual typewriter to compose a poem, reflect on a prompt in one of the museum’s galleries, or just play around with the keys of the machine. This event is for all ages 6 and older. Fun for families and kids!
Have a typewriter of your own at home? Bring your typewriter along with you, and have an expert tell you about the wear and the story that it tells about the machine and its previous use.
Just be sure not to miss the speed typing competition at 3:00. Each participant will get a chance to type out a short excerpt and see who can accurately type the piece the fastest. Winner will receive a small prize!
