NANCY KOZLOWSKI
I am a Detroit native and have lived in the area my entire life.
I am a graduate of Wayne State University, and though I began my college studies in their art program, I switched my focus to English Language and Literature, became a k-12 teacher first in art and then finally retired as a children’s librarian, where children’s picture books held constant delight for me.
My late husband and I traveled all over the place, and some of my work reflects those journeys, but lately there’s no place like home for me and my inspiration.
I have shown widely in group and small shows throughout the metro Detroit area.
We all realize that our visual statement serves as a window into our psychological insides, and it’s my aim as a painter to keep the Windex ready to make my images clear and understandable
to the viewer, but sometimes I distort the palette to fit a more fanciful image. I work with what I think I know, landscape and my own pets.
I always like to paraphrase the late cartoonist Aline Kominsky-Crumb, who put these words in the mouth of her autobiographical comix creation: “I don’t know why I paint like this. I just know that I have to.”
CAROL IZANT
Fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly…art is my religion. It’s what I practice. By standing aside and allowing the Spirit to come through me, I hope to translate invisible energies into tangible emotional experiences for the viewer that offer a glimpse of Beauty.
Chasing Beauty is like having a demanding mistress. She is never satisfied. I am driven in my pursuit to follow her to a place of wonder.
