About this Event

The American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) invites you to join us for two events on August 26, 2025, at the Marshall University Student Memorial Center. Both events are free for the public and food will be served.


  • Afternoon Presentation (Begins at 12:00 p.m.) — , hosted by AFB’s Public Policy & Research Institute. Please note this presentation is scheduled to run for approximately one hour; however, additional time may be taken for discussion or questions.
  • Evening Screening & Reception (Begins at 5:00 p.m.) — Premiere of , a documentary short featuring the stories of blind and low vision West Virginians.

Host: AFB's Public Policy and Research Institute (PPRI)

Info: Aging and Vision Loss: What You Need to Know is a comprehensive presentation that will help you learn about major issues affecting older people who are blind or low vision, gain understanding about eye conditions and their functional implications, learn about proper etiquette and courtesy rules, and find out about the vision rehabilitation services, how they are delivered, & how older people can access and benefit from them.

Screening — Unseen Horizons: Stories of Blind Virginians
Host: AFB Studios

Info: AFB is releasing its new documentary, Unseen Horizons, this summer, featuring untold stories of blind West Virginians. In an effort to explore the lives of individuals who are blind or low vision in the wild and wonderful state, AFB uncovers everyday challenges and experiences through the stories of six West Virginians. This film leaves audiences to consider the diverse walks of life and how everyone navigates the world differently.
