Friends of Music will present a concert by the Two Rivers String Quintet on Saturday, November 15.
The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the historic Trinity Episcopal Church in Shepherdstown, WV. Entitled "Double Down: Two Cellos, Twenty Strings," it will include two works: the string quintet in C major by Franz Schubert (1797–1828), and another string quintet in C major by Luigi Boccherini (1743–1805) called "La musica notturna delle strade di Madrid" ("Night music of the streets of Madrid").
The ensemble's members are shown in the accompanying photo as follows: Camilo Pérez-Mejía, cello; Heather Austin-Stone, violin; Jason Diggs, viola; Alán Saucedo, cello; and Petr Skopek, violin.
The ensemble's members, and its two cellists in particular, are well known for their expressive and powerful performances and collaborations Jed Gaylin, the Friends of Music's Music Director, said the concert will "dive into the full range of what a double-cello ensemble can do." He said the Schubert quintet is full of "rich textures, luminous harmonies, and profound emotional range," and the Boccherini work is "elegant and spirited, with sparkling charm."
Admission to the concert will be free for Friends of Music members. The ticket price for others will be $35 per person.
