Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra Concert
Schedule
Sun Sep 28 2025 at 03:00 pm to 05:00 pm
UTC-04:00Location
Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church, 100 West Washington St., Shepherdstown, WV 25443 | Shepherdstown, WV
Entitled "Beethoven: For the Birders," the concert is being presented in collaboration with the Potomac Valley Audubon Society. It will feature two popular masterpieces that incorporate bird songs into celebrations of nature: Respighi's orchestral suite "Gli uccelli" ("The Birds") and Beethoven's "Pastoral" symphony.
The orchestra's music director, Jed Gaylin, said the works that will be performed "have long enthralled audiences with their beauty, elegance, and depth of expression." "In the Respighi suite," he said, "the musical impressions of birdsong are eloquent and shimmery. In the Beethoven symphony, they expand to reflect all of creation and its relationship with humanity."
The first performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, the 27th; the second will be a 3:00 p.m. matinee on Sunday, the 28th.
Both performances will be held in Shepherdstown's historic Presbyterian Church, located at 100 West Washington Street.
Gaylin will conduct. Before each performance, he will lead a discussion at the church about the concert's works, offering his perspectives on them. He will be joined by a representative of the Potomac Valley Audubon Society, who will provide additional insights about nature and art. The Saturday evening talk will begin at 6:30 p.m.; the Sunday afternoon talk will begin at 2:00 p.m. Each talk will last about a half hour. Anyone can attend.
Admission to the concert will be free for Friends of Music members. The ticket price for nonmembers will be $40 per person. Elementary and high school students can attend for free. Tickets for college students are $5 each.
Tickets and Friends of Music memberships can be purchased on the Friends' website at www.friendswv.org or by mail (FOM, PO Box 220, Shepherdstown, WV 25443) or, if space is available, at the door at both performances. Visa and Master Card will be accepted. For more information, contact the Friends' office at [email protected] or 304-876-5765.
