When Roman's (Dylan O'Brien) twin brother Rocky passes away, Roman feels utterly lost without his other half; after all, they've done everything together and have always been there for each other. Looking for a way to not feel alone in the world, he joins a support group for "singletons"—a nickname for twins who have lost their sibling—at the urge of his mother Lisa (Lauren Graham). It is there that Roman meets Dennis (writer-director James Sweeney), who is also struggling after losing his twin.
