About the Awards

The Tuvugane Awards ceremony recognizes and celebrates Burundian-American youth who are doing transformative work in their communities and for Burundi. These awards shine a light on leadership, service, innovation, and commitment to positive change.

At Tuvugane, we believe communities thrive when their members are seen, motivated, and encouraged. We acknowledge the resilience of Burundian youth who continue to overcome systemic, cultural, and generational barriers in the societies in which they live. Tuvugane is a platform created by and for Burundian-American youth to break these barriers, foster trust-building, support intergenerational healing, and promote coexistence.

For this reason, we established the annual Tuvugane Awards to celebrate our collective accomplishments, recognize exemplary individuals, and inspire others through stories of perseverance, leadership, and impact.
