Pierluigi Camicia began his concert career following awards in National (Treviso) and internationally prestigious competitions (Busoni, Ciani, Chopin), earning the admiration and esteem of artists such as Rostropovitch, Ferrara, and Ciccolini. His recitals in Europe (Germany, Poland, and Switzerland) and the United States (Salt Lake, Cleveland, Akron, Los Angeles, Fresno, etc.) have received wide acclaim from critics and audiences alike. He pays particular attention to unusual repertoires and has collaborated with renowned soloists and conductors (Ferro, Friedman, Haronovitch, Biscardi, Gusella) and with European and American orchestras. As a chamber musician, he has performed with artists such as Michael Flaksman, Ruggiero Ricci, Angelo Persichilli, Felix Ayo, and Nina Beilina. He has also collaborated with prestigious singers like Ricciarelli, Devia, and Colaianni in lieder and lyric recitals, and often with vocalists like Antonella Ruggiero and Mariella Nava.
Since 1973, when he was invited by then-Director Nino Rota, Camicia has held a professorship at the Piccinni National Conservatory of Bari, where he has mentored a generation of talented musicians who have gone on to international careers. He has recorded music by Chopin, Giuliani, Rota, Grieg, Brahms, Franck, Faurè, and Van Westerhout for Farelive, Abegg, and Bongiovanni.
From its founding in 1974, he served as Artistic Director of the AUDITORIUM Association of Castellana Grotte, which produces and organizes chamber and symphonic concerts and operas. In 2002 and 2003, he artistically directed the "Talos Jazz Festival" in Ruvo di Puglia, one of Italy's most important jazz festivals. Since 2003, he has been the Artistic Director of the Camerata Musicale Salentina of Lecce, the most important music association in Salento.
Camicia holds masterclasses in piano and chamber music for universities in the USA (BWYU – Provo – UTAH, CSUF – Fresno – CALIFORNIA, WESLEYAN COLLEGE – Macon – GEORGIA, etc.) and at Hochschulen in Germany, France, Croatia, and Poland. He has performed for major theaters, orchestras, and concert associations in Italy and abroad, including La Scala in Milan, Carnegie Hall in New York, the Oriental Art Center in Shanghai, and the Teatro Verdi in Trieste.
