Meals today – Dinner (lunch own cost)
3rd April – As we are so close to the quaint village of Tutukaka and Poor Knight Islands it would be an insult not to include this incredible day out. The boat trip includes stopping at the islands with time to snorkel or kayak this amazing marine reserve area (all equipment such as wetsuits, snorkel, kayaks supplied) Of course if you are not a water baby you can stay on the boat and enjoy the views of towering rock islands around you, that seem to plummet hundreds of meters into the sea.
There are caves and holes through the formations and the boat will venture in, out and through such features. A smorgasbord lunch on the boat is included as part of the tour.
If this boat trip is not to your liking Dave will drive the van on an outing to walk over the longest foot bridge in the southern hemisphere. The scenic drive will include coastal views around east Northland bays. A difference in the boat trip will be credited off the amount.
Meals today – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
4th April – Today we will make our way to Orewa for the next night’s stay. We will visit the Kauri Museum on the way. The road trip journey travels through Ruakaka, Brynderwn Hills, Matakohe, Wellsford and Warkworth.
Meals today – Breakfast, Café Lunch and Dinner
5th April – Early start as we travel to Helensville for the start of our inland Kaipara Harbour adventure. The journey retraces the old steamer and sailing ship routes from Helensville to Dargaville through the historic Kaipara Harbour aboard the comfortable vessel M.V Kewpie Too. The Pouto Peninsula we will see many remote barren beaches accessible only by boat with their white sand back drop.
Then the entrance to the Northern Wairoa River to explore many bays and inlets where gum diggers camped. We also pass by ‘ghost towns’ where early settlers had grand dreams and plans for settlements and communities.
Once at Dargaville a coach will meet us and transport us to accommodation places. There are 3 options and those who register will be given further information to choose from. Dinner is, as a group, with transport from and to accommodation places.
Meals today – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
6th April – Today begins with a coach tour along the Pouto Peninsula – we reboard the Kewpie Too at Pouto Point. On the coach tour we will visit the Northern Wairoa Maritime Museum where we are guided by local historians. The museum houses relics of shipwrecks of the Kaipara Bar and history of the kauri gum diggers. We pass through the old Kauri Mill towns of Aratapu and Te Kopuru before the rolling farmlands and views of the Kaipara Harbour.
Once back on board the boat we will journey across the Kaipara Harbour to Helensville, arriving around 4pm.
We then head to Auckland airport for evening flights home.
