You ask, what is a White Elephant Christmas? A White Elephant Christmas is a unknown gift exchange. Each person attending needs to bring a generic, NON GENDER specific gift. (Gag gifts are frowned upon) It can be something as simple as a VGK sock hat, scarf or a Yeti mug. Maybe a good carabiner. REI or Sportsman Warehouse has a lot of gifts for around $25 ish . PICK SOMETHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO GET!!! Be creative!
Just remember, you have to take it to the peak! Your gift can end up in anyones hands. Don't be thinking your gift will go to any one person of your choosing. It won't!! All gifts must be wrapped!!

We may add a twist this year but for now..........
Exchange rules: Everyone draws a number. #1 chooses a gift and opens it. #2 can steal a gift or open a gift. (If your gift is stolen, you pick another from the tree.) #3 same process and so forth until everyone has had a turn. At this point, person #1 gets to steal any gift not locked or keep the gift they have. Once nobody steals a gift the game is over.
If you steal a gift, the person you steal it from opens another gift. The second time a gift is stolen, it is locked and the person taking it is out and keeps that gift.
Anyone dressed in Christmas attire gets bonus points. I'm sure there is a good chance for some caroling on the way to the peak so brush up on your singing voice!
This hike is set up to be a fun, slow poke hike. We won't be in any hurry so plan on a relaxed, fun day with some of the best hikers around.

Beginners and new members are welcome. I will not be moving at a fast pace but please understand you have to be in good hiking shape to complete this hike!!
You must be comfortable on exposed class 3 rock to do this hike. There is some exposure, and steep slabs. A good hike to test your climbing skills. After we do Junior, we will descend thru Angelina's crack and over to a slot towards Calico. Maybe go over to the arch and then exit to the cars. Please bring 2 liters of water, a snack and a smile.

We are going from the Sandstone Quarry side. It is pretty simple.

Talking
Talking should be kept to a minimum for obvious safety reasons. You must pay attention to Leader commands, calls for rockfall and be able to concentrate on foot placement for a safe as possible hike.
We know hiking is a social atmosphere but constant talking and chatter can be detrimental to those near you if you trip, fall and hurt yourself or a fellow hiker. Also, other hikers may not want to hear you constantly talking. They want to hike in peaceful and quiet surroundings. Please be considerate of others so they can enjoy the hike!

Safety
Getting everyone through the hike safely is my first priority. You can help yourself and everyone else stay safe by being aware of the following:

Rock Fall
This is one of the greatest dangers we face. Don’t unnecessarily cause any extra rock fall and be certain to alert hikers behind you, should a rock accidentally start to fall their way.

Group Hiking
Always stay with the group behind the leader. If you don’t want to stay with us, you can always go hiking on your own, though it’s not recommended. Don’t run ahead. If you start to get too far behind, shout ahead before you’re out of range for someone to hear you. I always endeavor to keep track of everyone’s progress, but ultimately, it’s your responsibility to communicate what you need.

Weather
The weather in the mountains can change quickly. It's EVERYONE's responsibility to check the weather. I will hike, even if it's raining, as long as there is no lightning. Vegas can be hot, but an unexpected storm in the mountains can become very cold. ALWAYS bring a rain jacket or poncho. Staying dry will save your life. Do not wear cotton clothing ,and bringing an extra layer is always a good idea.
