Cancer cells live under more stress than normal cells, so they carry extra “bad molecules” (ROS) and extra “protectors” (antioxidants) to survive. This balance keeps them alive but also makes them vulnerable. If we can gently push this balance out of place—by creating more of the bad molecules while lowering their protectors—cancer cells can no longer cope. In this session, we discuss the possibility of turning this weakness against them and could this help us design treatments that target and harm cancer cells specifically.
About the speaker: Dr. Shubhangi Das is a Research Associate at the Dept. of Chemical Sciences, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. Her research interests are in the area of synthesis and biological evaluation of small molecule anticancer drug candidates for treatment of cancer.
