Join us on Saturday, September 20th from 11:30am-6pm, and celebrate the rich history and enduring presence of the Wiyot people with a day dedicated to Tuluwat Island—the cultural and spiritual center of Wiyot life for generations. Through exhibits, walking tours, and guest speakers, we’ll explore the island’s deep historical significance and honor the Wiyot Tribe’s resilience, renewal, and sovereignty.Museum Exhibit – The exhibit highlights the long-standing role of Tuluwat Island in Wiyot culture, ceremony, and governance.
Walking Tours 11am & 3pm – Take a guided journey from the Cultural Center to the Eureka Boardwalk with views of Tuluwat Island and stories from Wiyot history. *Weather permitting*
Guest Speakers:
12:00 PM – Jerry Rohde will speak on the rich and complex history of Tuluwat Island.
2:00 PM – Marnie Atkins will speak on the meaning of indigenous survivance.
Community Booths – Learn about the Wiyot Tribe’s current programs and projects at the Old Town Eureka Gazebo.
Come walk, listen, learn, and celebrate the living history of Tuluwat Island and the strength of the Wiyot people.
