The Tulsa Elite is the WFTDA charter team under the Roughneck Roller Derby league. The Elite team will compete in sanctioned travel and home games for the 2025 season, and aim to improve the current ranking in the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association.
2025 Season Schedule:
May 10th (Houston), tentatively July 18-20th (Springfield, MO), Sept. 20th (Tulsa). Possible scrimmages in Tulsa or surrounding states/cities.
Tryout Eligibility:
All tryouts for the 2025 season are open to any interested skaters, regardless of current league affiliation (this includes inactive/unaffiliated skaters returning to competition). Skaters are expected to participate for the entirety of tryouts unless otherwise instructed by assessors. If accepted to the next quarter charter, skaters are expected to begin meeting Elite team requirements immediately. Must be 18 or older to participate.
Skaters are required to make both the February 11th and 12th dates for tryouts.
If alternative options are needed please contact head coach Rink Floyd at [email protected] to make arrangements.
Elite Team Requirements & Expectations
Chartered skaters are expected to:
Pay monthly dues, sliding scale $10-40, and become a member of Roughneck Roller Derby.
Be an active skater on the charter roster for that season.
Attend 70% of practices in order to be eligible for roster. Practice participation is vital for team cohesion.
Remain in good standing, as defined by the RRD league bylaws.
Understand that there are additional practices and travel expenses associated with being an Elite travel team member.
Participate in fundraising efforts to supplement the financial support by the league and sponsors.
Communicate any difficulty maintaining eligibility to coaching staff before a problem arises.
Wear and care for uniforms designated for Elite
Put in time outside of practice to remain healthy and increase fitness levels as needed to play at a competitive level.
Provide support and encouragement to their teammates for all the above tasks.
Practice Behavior
Skaters will:
Attend all available practice sessions. It is understood that situations arise and perfect attendance is not always a reality, but skaters must make their best effort to attend all practices possible. If a skater cannot make it they are expected to contact the coach, captain, or co captain to communicate their absence.
Be engaged in practice to receive credit (no cell phone, homework, talking, etc).
Maintain a positive attitude and interact respectfully toward officials, teammates, and coaches.
Tournament/Game Expectations
Skaters and coaches will:
Conduct self with grace, dignity and honor, realizing you represent all of RRD and Tulsa-area roller derby on an international level.
Refrain from consumption of drugs or alcohol until after the game or the last game on the final day of a tournament.
Not speak ill of any official, league, skater, or teammate, nor heckle any official, league, or skater.
Maintain a positive attitude on the bench/in the stands.
Assist coaching as requested if not skating in a game (3rd base coach, video filming, strategy assessment, live stats feedback, etc. as these are just as important as playing in the game itself).
Rosters for Games:
In order to be placed on a roster, charter members must be eligible as defined in the Elite team requirements.
The attendance period used to determine eligibility for each sanctioned game are the 10 practice dates 30 days out from the game date.
Being rostered for a game does not guarantee any certain amount of play time or jams. Coaching staff will choose lineups as the game necessitates.
If more skaters are available for any given game than are rostered, decisions on rosters will be based on what skills/positions are needed to be competitive with the opposing team, attendance, standing with the league, attitude, and coach’s discretion.
Skaters not rostered should keep their schedules open for that game, as injury or emergencies may necessitate the selection of alternate players.
Non-rostered skaters are still expected to attend all team scrimmages and practices.
