Tualatin River Wildlife Refuge Photowalk
About this Event
The restored wetland areas and lush riverside forests here are home to a huge diversity of birds and other wildlife, making it a photographer’s dream.
After gathering for a short discussion about the best equipment for photographing this environment, and to learn about the natural history of the area from Oregon Wild, we’ll set out for a walk along the Tualatin River to a photo blind and through an open meadow and wetland area, taking advantage of the golden hour lighting.
The walk will be led by Chandra LeGue, Senior Conservation Advocate for Oregon Wild and author of “Oregon’s Ancient Forests: A hiking guide” with the support of Pro Photo Supply staff.
Donations (paid tickets) made for this photo walk benefit Oregon Wild, a nonprofit organization working to protect ancient forests and wild rivers that make for such great places to photograph. Oregon Wild’s Outdoor Photo Contest (sponsored by Pro Photo Supply) is open through September 11, 2026.
Recommended Photography Gear to Bring:
- Camera (Each participant must supply their own camera for this walk)
- Charged battery (and possibly spares)
- An empty memory card
- Lens(es)
- Tripod/Monopod
Some Things Participants Should Know:
- Experience level: Beginner & Up
- Meeting time and event duration: Meet at 5:30pm at the Tualatin River Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, and plan for about 2 hours for the talk, walk, and taking photos.
- This event may be canceled in the event of hazardous air quality or weather conditions.
- Meeting Location: Tualatin River Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, 19255 SW Pacific Hwy, Sherwood, OR 97140
- Walk difficulty: You should be able to walk on a flat trail for about 2 miles total. There will be options to walk shorter or longer distances.
- Suggest Items to Bring: snacks, water, comfortable walking shoes appropriate for trail walking, layered clothing, weather-appropriate attire, and additional items needed for protection from the elements and any medications you may need.
- Drugs, alcohol, weapons, and pets are not allowed.

This photowalk is limited to 25 spots with a minimum of 5 registered attendees needed. In the event the minimum isn't met, the session will be canceled and registered attendees will receive full refunds.
This event has limited space, as a result, registration is required for each attendee. If you are on the waitlist for this event, you will receive a notification, via email, if a space becomes available for you.
