About this Event
Join us for an in-gallery tabletop rpg game night and play by UK artist David Blandy.
Gathering Storm is a collaborative world-building game that guides the players through adding elements to a map, imagining a postcolonial sci-fi world and then giving a set of characters to inhabit this space through a streamlined standard card-based system. Through a series of prompts, players come to terms with hidden histories and present injustices. No previous experience of tabletop gaming is necessary to play.
Important Notes:
- This game is for 2 - 6 players.
- A party of 4 - 6 players registered together will get one full separate table.
- A party of 2 - 3 players will get half a table, and will be able to play a separate game from the other half of the table if they wish, or they can join another group of 2 - 3 to play one game together.
- A party of 1 will have to be joined by a minimum of another group of 1 - 2 players to be able to play the game.

David Blandy makes work that slips between performance and video, digital and analogue, investigating the stories and cultural forces that inform and influence our lives. Collaboration is central to his practice, examining communal and personal heritage and interdependence. With research spanning multiple forms of archive, from historic texts to academic archives, archaeology and ecological theory, twitch streams and film archives, Blandy weaves poetic works that explore the complexities of the contemporary subject.
Blandy’s projects involve complex installations, performance, writing, gaming, and sound. He was nominated for the Film London Jarman Award with Larry Achiampong in 2018. He has exhibited and performed at venues nationally and worldwide such as: Towner Gallery, Eastbourne; Focal Point Gallery, Southend-on-Sea; Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge; Art Tower Mito, Tokyo; Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki; Tate Modern, London; Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead; Turner Contemporary, Margate; Spike Island, Bristol; Künstlerhaus Stuttgart; MoMA PS1, New York; and Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai.
