Try Scuba is the easiest way to find out if scuba diving is for you before you commit to a full certification. Held in the heated Derry Township Community Center pool in Hershey, PA, this two-hour session puts you in real scuba gear with a certified SSI instructor by your side the entire time. You'll learn the basics of breathing underwater, clearing your mask, and staying comfortable and in control — all in a shallow, controlled environment built for first-timers.
This isn't a certification course, so there's no exam, no homework, and no pressure. It's simply the fastest way for anyone in the Harrisburg, Hershey, or Central PA area to experience scuba diving hands-on before deciding whether to pursue full certification, like SSI Open Water Diver.
What to expect:
* A private pre-dive briefing covering equipment and basic safety skills
* Full scuba gear fitted and explained by your instructor
* Guided breathing and comfort exercises at the surface
* A supervised pool dive in shallow water, one-on-one with your instructor
* Digital learning materials included in the course price
FAQ:
Q: Do I need to know how to swim to Try Scuba?
A: Basic water comfort is helpful, but you don't need to be a strong swimmer or pass a swim test. Your instructor stays with you the entire session and keeps things at your pace.
Q: Is Try Scuba a certification?
A: No. Try Scuba is an introductory experience, not a certification course. If you enjoy it and want to keep diving, your instructor can walk you through the path to SSI Open Water Diver certification.
Q: What's the minimum age for Try Scuba?
A: Ask our team about current age guidelines when booking — we'll match you with the right program based on age and swimming ability.
Q: Does Try Scuba count toward my Open Water Diver certification?
A: Try Scuba is a standalone experience and doesn't count toward certification credit, but it's a great low-pressure way to preview the skills you'll build in the Open Water Diver course.
Q: What should I bring?
A: A swimsuit and a towel. All scuba equipment is provided, and digital learning materials are included in your course price.
