Discover the magic of sunlight and creativity in this inspiring Cyanotype workshop, where art and nature come together in a truly captivating way.
Cyanotype is one of the earliest photographic processes, discovered in 1842 and famous for its rich Prussian blue prints. Originally used to reproduce photographs, documents, maps and architectural blueprints, this historic technique remains a wonderfully accessible and creative art form today.
In this hands-on workshop, you'll harness the power of the sun to create stunning blue-and-white prints using natural materials and found objects. Arrange leaves, flowers, lace, feathers, string, shells, or other interesting items onto specially prepared light-sensitive paper, then watch as sunlight transforms your designs into beautiful, detailed prints. The process captures every shadow and texture, producing unique images full of depth and character.
Guided step-by-step, you'll explore composition, layering, pattern and texture while experimenting with light and shadow. The cyanotype process is easy, forgiving, quick and endlessly fascinating, making it perfect for beginners and experienced creatives alike. Photographers, mixed-media artists, printmakers, quilters, families and anyone curious about making art will enjoy this magical process.
Once your prints have been developed and dried, you'll transform them into a collection of handmade greetings cards, each one completely unique and ready to share with friends and loved ones.
No experience is necessary—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to experiment. You'll leave with a beautiful set of handcrafted cards, new creative skills, and a deeper appreciation for this historic photographic process.
Suitable for all abilities. All materials provided.
Children aged 10 and over are welcome to attend the workshop when accompanied by a paying adult, who will be responsible for them throughout the session.
