Russell Gunn is an American trumpeter and composer born in Chicago in 1971, who grew up in East St. Louis and made his name blending jazz tradition with hip-hop, funk and global rhythms. He has worked with major figures including Wynton Marsalis and Marcus Miller, and his “Ethnomusicology” series became a signature statement of his bold stylistic range. Award-winning Gunn and his quartet paying homage to the roots of modern jazz with no safety net—no overdubs, just raw energy, soul and improvisation. Blending his trademark mix of jazz tradition and hip-hop attitude, this release adds another bold chapter to Gunn’s evolution as a musician grounded in both past and present.
